Glen Peters - Where Do You Come From?
Description
Grab a coffee and croissant, sit back and enjoy the beautiful and moving music as
Glen Peters performs songs from his recent album produced by Boo Hewerdine. They deal with heritage and identity as an immigrant to Britain.
Alain Debotton referred to it as “…tender and beguiling.”
Glen is an Anglo Indian who was born in Calcutta in 1950. His family moved to England in 1967 just as Enoch Powell was igniting racial hatred with his infamous rivers of blood speech. The 17 year old Peters was fortunate enough to make friends with a pal who told him “Don’t worry, we’re not all like Enoch” and introduced him to the cosy world of folk clubs, a world Peters has inhabited since then, initially as a performer and then running various clubs himself while also establishing a successful career as an advocate for and pioneer in eco friendly green energy.
'Where Do You Come From?' is his story. It has already attracted warm critical praise:
“Utterly wonderful — a very tender and beguiling work.”
— Alain de Botton, philosopher
“An astonishing piece of work, dealing with the narratives and stories of people from recent history.”
— BB Skone, Pure West Radio
This a local show before Glen takes it to the Edinburgh Fringe.
