Flemish Llangwm - from William the Conqueror to Diana, Princess of Wales

Description

Village icon, Pam Hunt talks Goedendags, sheep's shoulder blades and lifts the cobwebbed veil of Llangwm's Flemish past.

In this fascinating short talk, Pam also lifts the hemline of the profound love story between William the Conqueror and his diminutive wife Princess Matilda and traces the Flemish mercenaries that took part in the 1093 Norman invasion of Wales and whose descendants settled in Pembrokeshire and grew in social stature until in 1375 they married into the Royal family. Famous descendants of Llangwm's Flemish mercenaries include two US presidents, Sir Winston Churchill and Diana, Princess of Wales.
